UMvC3 Team Discussion, Spider-Man/Dante/Vergil a.k.a Spider May Cry




Because Zero May Cry are too mainstream
Hello, AdvG|Hakujin is back to discussing something about UMvC3 again, now I want to discuss about my newest Spider-Man team, the team contains Spider-Man(Spider Sting)/Dante(Jam Session)/Vergil(Rapid Slash) or I call it Spider May Cry, I already test this team against 2 player, first is my brother AdvG|Disc-Co a.k.a Swag-Chan(Wolverine/Doom/Ammy) and second is AdvG|Kazama Albert a.k.a Oscura(Taskmaster/Dante/Vergil), the overall result are not really bad, even Swag-Chan can perfected me 1 match *yaoming*, so now let’s go to the pros and cons about this team.
Pros:
Has a lot of offensive pressure, you can abuse your Jam Session for blockstring or for incoming mixup, in some ways, you can do ambiguous crossup with Jam Session and follow it with web throw(M or H) to do a full combo, and of course, you can abuse the Rapid Slash assist to do some blockstrings and sometimes is useable for incoming mixup, but has less follow up than Jam Session IMO, this team actually has 2 point and 2 assist character......WHAT? 2 point and 2 assist? THIS IS 3vs3 FIGHTING GAME MAN! HOW DARE YOU........*slap* ok, what I mean this team has 2 point and 2 assist is, this team has a character who can act as a point character and a assist character, that character is Dante, because as a point, he can build much meter from 1 combo, and when he act as a assist, he has a great assist either for offensive mixup or for creating a space while doing the neutral play and one more thing, Jam Session is one of the best assist in this game, you can minimize some top tier characters movement like Zero, Magneto, Doom, etc.
For the overall damage, I think you can build a great damage if you raw tag Spider-Man to Dante after doing some combo(s), you can see the Proof of Concept video in here(created my me):


Actually, when you raw tag Spider-Man to Dante after doing some combo(s), you can build some meters and build some damage from it, maybe not as big as MameSpider Spidey-Doom raw tag combos, but the Spidey-Dante raw tag combo is more consistent IMO, because you can do it in anywhere on the screen.....yes, ANYWHERE(but you must be good in teleport bold cancel, if not you will be screwed :v ) and if Spidey-Doom raw tag combo can only maximize their combo if you didn’t do Spider Sting>Spider Bite before you raw tag to Doom(so you can only finish it with Web Throw before raw tag to Doom to maximize the damage), Spidey-Dante can maximize it, they don’t care how long the combo before you finish it and raw tag to Dante, and you can create some extra damage with Spidey or Vergil assist, you just call the assist>do Volcano(DP/623 M)>the Volcano and assist hits>do j.S>and do another Volcano-Beehive then do Hyper to finish off your opponent, and if you call Vergil assist, you can reset the ground bounce using the Sky Dance(j.qcf/236 H)>do Beehive>then do another Volcano-Beehive and finish it with Hyper.
And I think most of you will ask me this “Why you use Spider Sting as your Spider-Man assist, why not web ball or web swing?” why I use Spider Sting as the assist because I think Spider Sting is a good anti-air assist and sometimes can create a great incoming mixup with Dante, simply you can call Spider-Man and Dante can teleport behind you and do something like j.S or other else, and Spider Sting has a constant hitstun, so it’s good too for do extra damage from Dante’s combo like I explain before hahaha.

Ah, one more thing, this team can do the Incoming Ultimate Web Throw(UWT) Guard Break setup, either Dante or Vergil can do this setup, the setups from both of Sons of Spardas are practical in real match, but I think Vergil is easier to do than Dante, so now I will tell you how to do that:
Dante: *le opponent comes to the ring(lol :v)* do Instant Air Dash(IAD) j.L>land, then immediately do Devil Trigger(qcb/214 AA)>DHC to UWT>voila, free high damaging combo(if the UWT hits :v)
Vergil: *le opponent comes to the ring* do j.L>immediately cancel it to Dimension Slash(qcf/236 AA)>DHC to UWT>voila, free high damaging combo(if the UWT hits :v)
*note: AA is double attack button(L+M, L+H, M+H) but I think you can press all the 3 buttons(L+M+H) too*
I think that’s all for the pros, I think all of you know why I put Vergil in anchor lol :v
Ok now let’s go to the cons of this team.
Cons:
The overall HP of this team are low(900k,900k,850k), so it’s too easy to ToD all of them, and I think if you cannot play Spider-Man and/or Dante well, this team are too Dark Vergil comeback factor oriented, so your opponent can snap back Vergil and kill him first then kill the others.
Second is, to do the high damaging for Spidey in this team are hard, either you must raw tag to Dante or do Web Zip OTG + Jam Session or Rapid Slash, the DHC synergy from Maximum Spider are bad, and it’s to hard to end Spidey combo with Crawler Assault in this team, maybe you can end it with Crawler Assault if you change Dante assist to Crystal, but I think Jam Session is muct better for mixup and neutraling.
I think this team is kinda hard to fight against projectile assist or projectile spammer character, so use your assist wisely, because if you’re not, you will got Happy Birthday‘d(the opponent can hitting/comboing your point char and one of your assist char) from your opponent
This team has some bad matchups too, except Vergil.
And the last but not least, this team doesn’t has a great left-right mixup, it’s because Spidey can’t do left-right mixup, and Dante-Vergil or Dante-Spidey mixup are only useable in corner, so this team is a corner oriented team too.

So the conclusion is, if you want to play this Spider May Cry team, you must know when you call Dante or Vergil assist, either for neutraling or mixup or pressing, because this team are the low health team, and yes, when in doubt, do as many things as you can when Spidey and Dante are dead, because you have XF3 Vergil a.k.a Dark Vergil a.k.a The Best Anchor Ever, but be careful if your opponent tries to snap back your Vergil, to solve this case, you must know how to play Spidey and/or Dante with XF3 and no assist, because XF3 Spidey and Dante are really scary if you can control their speed boost, for knowing how to comeback with XF3 Spider-Man, I think you can see FRB Mamespider vs BT Clockwork match video in here:


Overall tier for this team I think is B to B-, maybe we can have a better tier if we change the point character to someone that freakin broken like Zero, Mags, etc.(lol, just kidding)

UMvC3 Character Discussion: Spider-Man


Yo man, Weerd526 is back to his own blog again, but now you may call me Hakujin(my stream name in FGC Tournament), so for now, I’d like to discuss something about UMvC3, what I want to discuss is all about Spider-Man in UMvC3.
So, Spider-Man in UMvC3 is a great character comparing to the previous series, he has many options for rush down and has some spacing options(thanks to his web zip buff), but unfortunately, Spider-Man is still a underrated character, everyone who likes to playing in huge tournament are prefer to use some characters like Zero, Mags, Vergil, and the other high tiers, hahahaha, ok now we’re going to discuss Spidey’s pros and cons in UMvC3.
Pros:
He’s a nice Safe Rush character, and put him in the point, he will be the one of the scariest point character in the game if you can maximize his moves and build the great team for him. Spider-Man has a great air mobility for the Non-Flight character, and he has many options for rushing down your opponent such as, you can do TK(Tiger Knee) web swing to make a ambiguous overhead, you can do front web zip after do some pressing to make a triple overhead, you can do spider sting or web throw for incoming mix-up(cross-under potential for all spider sting type and H web throw) and many more for his offensive options.

Cons:
He has medium-low HP(900k), he can’t do a 700k++ combo by himself(I exclude the impractical combo lol :v), he has many bad match-up(either individual or assist match-up), he’s a terrible support and anchor character because he didn’t have a great assist and XF2/3 Spider-Man is not that good comparing to some characters, his movement priority are not the best(even you can disrespect his spider sting or web swing incoming setup with some moves like Wolverine dive kick and many more), his meter gain are mediocre comparing to the other characters, his ground move are terrible and he’s kinda hard to maximize his combo without OTG assist or without web zip OTG + assist.

Overall:
You can only maximize Spider-Man potential by putting him as a point char with a correct assist, and you must controling the momentum if you want to win with this character, but if you can do all the things you want correctly, congratz you won that match*youdontsay.jpg*. So in my opinion, Spider-Man individual tier is B+, the assist tier is D.

Assists:
So, I’d to present to all of you the recommended assist for this character, before I give you the assist lists, what is the great criteria for Spidey assists? The answer is either for follow up his combo(mostly OTG assists), for neutraling(beams/arrows) or for give more pressure to his opponent, more or less that’s what Spidey needs in UMvC3, ok now let’s go to look the recommended assist lists for Spidey(Top 10, but maybe not in particular order):
- Hidden Missiles(Doctor Doom)
- Aim Master L(TaskMaster)
- Rapid Slash(Vergil)
- Plasma Beam(Doctor Doom)
- EM Distruptor(Magneto)
- Sentinel Force[charge](Sentinel)
- Repulsor Blast(Iron Man)
- Jam Session(Dante)
- Dark Hole(Dormammu)
- Quick Shot[Greyhound](Hawkeye)

I think there’s another potential assist for Spider-Man team, but I think I only list the top 10 for you hahahaha.
Teams:
Now I want to share to you my original opinion about the top 5 Spider-Man team lists, I only give the lists, maybe we will discuss the team in other posts(maybe will discuss the other teams that aren’t listed in my top 5) , so here’s the lists(in a particular order):
- Spider-Man(a)/Doctor Doom(b)/Vergil(y)
- Spider-Man(a)/Magneto(a)/Doctor Doom(b)
- Spider-Man(y)/Dante(a)/Doctor Doom(a/b) or Iron-Man(a/b)
- Spider-Man(a)/Storm(a)/Sentinel(a) or Doctor Doom(b)
- Spider-Man(b)/Dormammu(a)/Doctor Doom(b)
